The Liberty Tattoo Removal Program is now being run through the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department. Please call the number listed above to get information on the program.

The Liberty Program was run by St. Francis Medical Center from 1995 through 2003 when the hospital closed. Cottage Health System assumed management of the program and the St. Francis Foundation continued the financial support until June 30, 2011, when the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department took over management of the program.

People with anti-social, gang or prison tattoos often encounter negative attitudes, stereotyping, prejudices and discrimination. There is an identified need in our community for a mechanism by which people who are trying to become productive can remove these marks of distinction and the psychological and physical barriers that they carry. In doing so, this will provide them better educational and employment opportunities. Community service hours are required in exchange for laser treatments.
